Mindware Connections Trains Providers At Pluta Cancer Center
Tuesday, August 26, 2008
Pluta Cancer Center, a private, leading edge Cancer Care Center serving over 15,000 patients annually in Upstate New York, was spending an average of $4,500 a month with a transcription service. Utilizing the services from Mindware Connections, in 4 months, they have cut their transcription cost by 40%.
Mindware Connections facilitated the integration of Dragon NaturallySpeaking software into IMPAC, Pluta's Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System. The staff at Pluta then received individualized training by Mindware Connections. John Turo, Practice Administrator, noted that following her training, Dr. Sandra McDonald, Radiation Oncologist, immediately started using Dragon NaturallySpeaking to document all of her patient notes. "She never went back to using our outsourced vendor for her transcriptions."
For the providers at Pluta Cancer Center, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software and the training from Mindware Connections has proven to be an incredible asset. "We have benefited immensely in moving forward with Speech Recognition Software, and the financial savings was not the primary reason we originally inquired about it." Speech recognition software allows immediate access to patient information within the company's EMR. "Documenting our patient notes in house and having our own backup system was critical to us. Having used an outside service for transcription for a number of years, we became aware of our vulnerability when we experienced failures at the service bureau due to a lack of proper back-up and had to re-dictate a considerable number of patients reports. This is no longer the case with Dragon, because the report is in the EMR system immediately. We have 19 employees, including physicians, nurses, physician extenders and some office personnel trained on Dragon, myself included, and we have nothing but good things to report!"
Pluta Cancer Center has realized the return on their one time investment, and now has immediate access to patient information. Additionally, they don't need to depend on someone else's backup system and are able to provide better patient care as an end result.
